William Magdalin, M.D.
Hair Transplant Surgeon & MHR Patient
A former art student with many world-renown American sculptors at the Student Art League in New York, Dr. William Magdalin joined Medical Hair Restoration in 2002. He had searched for the specialty that would best fit him, and strongly considered reconstructive and cosmetic surgery before looking into hair transplantation. He found great satisfaction in practicing hair restoration surgery as he spent time with various surgeons across the country.
He then applied for and completed a Hair Transplantation Fellowship under the direct supervision of MHR Founder and Medical Director, Dr. Matt Leavitt. "His enthusiasm and leadership were important factors in my decision," said Dr. Magdalin. "Given the opportunity to be personally trained by him and joining MHR was an easy choice to make. With a strong interest in research, another deciding factor was that MHR is one of the few national companies that also funds some of its own research."
Dr. Magdalin finds hair restoration surgery requires the physician to be technically sound and aesthetically talented. "It is important for surgeons to be trained in cutting-edge techniques," he said. "More importantly, the surgeon should be a leader in the advancement of hair restoration."
From his experience, he has said the hardest thing about the process from the patient perspective is the decision to have the procedure. "When someone has come to see me, we both already know they are interested in the procedure," he said. "There is the natural anxiety of the unknown. I'm there to alleviate that, for them to place their confidence in me. After that, everything is smooth sailing."
"Although some hair may be regained medically or a hair system may give the appearance of having more hair, hair transplantation is the most natural looking alternative," he said. "Transplanted hair is real, growing and natural."
Dr. Magdalin credits his aesthetic eye and ability to his background in sculpting. "Where my medical and surgical training give me the knowledge and skill to perform the procedure, my sculpture background gives me the eye for creating great hairlines and aesthetically pleasing results."
Dr. Magdalin enjoys the process of creating an individualized treatment plan and reconstructing a look that fits the patient's face and personality. He has performed procedures on men and women from age 19 to 80.
